It is possible to install a desktop operating system on a Thomas-Krenn server?

Desktop operating systems are not tested on our servers as we do not support their use. Proper operation cannot be guaranteed. The installation and operation of such software is done at the user's own risk and is not supported by Thomas-Krenn.

It is possible to use the dedicated NIC on the onboard IPMI modules as a network interface card?

No, this NIC is used exclusively for remote management purposes.

It is possible to operate a dual mainboard with only one CPU?

Yes, all of our dual mainboards also support single CPU operation. However, only the RAM and PCI slots assigned to the installed CPU can be used in such cases.

It is possible to use all of the PCI slots with only one CPU?

No, every PCI slot on this mainboard is assigned to a CPU. If only one CPU is installed, not all slots will be usable. You can learn more about this in our wiki article about this mainboard.

Why isn’t an onboard SATA controller listed in the server’s test log?

An SAS expander backplane is built into this server. Onboard SATA RAID controllers cannot be used with an SAS expander backplane. An SAS expander backplane can only be used with an SAS RAID controller or an (onboard) SAS HBA.

It is possible to operate an SAS2 controller (6Gb/s) with an SAS-3 expander backplane (12Gb/s)?

Yes, it is possible! The link-speed is automatically negotiated and reduced to 6Gb/s. To offer the best possible performance, we only offer 12GB/s SAS3 RAID controllers in our configurator.
