Storage Spaces Direct (often abbreviated to S2D) is a feature of the Datacenter Editions of Windows Server and Azure Local OS. This enables software-defined storage for Windows environments without additional third-party components.

Storage Spaces Direct combines local data carriers of several servers into a virtual, shared data storage. Together with Hyper-V, hyperconverged systems can be realized purely with Windows on-board resources or, alternatively, dedicated software-defined storage solutions can be created.
