What are the characteristics of a sustainable company?

Sustainability involves development that meets the needs of current generations without compromising the opportunities of future generations! This core statement from the Brundtland Report of 1987 is more relevant today than ever. Thomas-Krenn.AG is also always looking to improve its sustainability. But what does this look like for an IT company? Servers aren't grown on organic farms, unfortunately. Nevertheless, we do our part as a responsible participant of society and therefore orient ourselves on the "Three Pillars of Sustainability".

The three pillars of sustainability

The "three pillars of sustainability" pursue a holistic approach that goes far beyond traditional environmental protection. The focus is on

Economy ecology Social aspects
In order to operate sustainably, maximum profit must be achieved with minimum use of resources. Ecology refers to classic environmental protection: conserving resources, avoiding waste, using renewable raw materials and much more. The "human resource" is also important. The focus is on equal opportunities and the fulfillment of basic needs, among other things.
Thomas-Krenn.AG invests in the development and certification of sustainable IT products that are extremely energy-efficient The new building will meet the highest ecological standards. However, the Quality Managers are already introducing sustainable projects internally. Needs-oriented personnel management is just as much a standard at Thomas-Krenn as supporting social work.

Our commitment:

  • Blue Angel: Some of our products are certified with the Blue Angel.
  • LES: Our fanless low energy servers are not only extremely energy-efficient, but also silent.
  • Green IT: Here you can read all about our activities relating to sustainable IT.

Our commitment:

  • Solar system: We generate our electricity from solar energy.
  • Use of waste heat: We heat our production hall with the waste heat from the server center.
  • Waste avoidance: Invoices, orders, etc. are only printed at the customer's request and the packaging material is made from corn starch.
  • LED: All workstations have been equipped with LED screens.

Our commitment:

  • Health: Health days on various topics
  • Company bike: Every employee can lease a bicycle or e-bike at extremely favorable conditions.
  • Great Place to Work: Thomas-Krenn.AG was recognized for familiarity and cohesion, among other things.
  • Social commitment: Donations to social projects instead of Christmas greetings

Sustainable management according to ISO standards

Thomas-Krenn.AG is already very active in the field of environmental protection within the company. And it continues to plan for further improvements in the future. Especially in the course of construction, sustainable projects are our standard right from the start, with a focus on:

  • Sustainable building materials
  • E-charging stations
  • Green equipment


Another milestone was the certification of the company according to the DIN EN ISO 14001 standard in July 2022. With this certification, Thomas-Krenn.AG meets the globally recognized requirements for an environmental management system. As a result, the company is committed to resource-saving production and measures that promote sustainability across a product's entire life cycle. This starts at the sustainable extraction of raw materials and continues through to balanced production and energy efficiency during the service life all the way to the environmentally conscious disposal or recycling at the product's end of life.
