All editions of vSphere 8 (Standard, Enterprise Plus and Platinum) are licensed on a per CPU basis. The number of licenses required is determined by the sum of the processors of all physical vSphere hosts. Each CPU with a maximum of 32 cores requires one license. vCenter Server is not included in the processor-based single license.

vSphere Platinum also includes an SaaS component that is treated as a subscription.
