An edge data center must meet similar security standards in terms of fail-safe reliability as a traditional centralized data center: Fire protection, protection against water/liquids, gas exposure, vandalism, radiation, dust and heat are just some of the risks that must be considered when building an edge data center. In addition, a fail-safe power supply, sufficient air conditioning and an adequate authorization concept to protect against unauthorized access are needed to sufficiently protect the edge data center.
IT monitoring ensures the necessary transparency for controlling and tracking critical key figures and events. While it is true that data centers in the cloud offer cost advantages and nearly unlimited scalability compared to edge data centers by centralizing the infrastructure, they cannot keep up when it comes to real-time processing. Due to the distances between the data-generating systems in the periphery and the central cloud data center, the network connection between the two is subject to high throughput requirements, interference and risks. This is a crucial distinction, since typical IoT application areas – such as Industry 4.0, Smart Grid or autonomous logistics – require lightning quick data processing.
As a result, a growing number of companies today are relying on edge data centers to automate operations in IoT environments and process bulk data.
Edge data centers are small, high-performance data centers that are used in a wide variety of configurations. Whether in safe or cabinet design, as data center containers or modular data centers, the optimal design of an edge data center depends on the individual requirements of the customer. In order to meet even the most complex requirements in the development and construction of an edge data center, we work together with strong partners and leading data center manufacturers such as PRIOR1 and RZproducts.
This allows us to deliver fully equipped and thoroughly tested edge data centers with power and backup power supplies, cooling systems, remote management options, sensors and IT monitoring software as well as comprehensive security management. Our specialists are happy to advise you on all questions regarding edge data centers or mini data centers. Simply fill out the contact form below and we’ll be happy to help.
