OpenPOWER

Open source software has proven itself in enterprise use over the last two decades. Operating systems, virtualization solutions and critical enterprise applications like databases benefit from the open development model and the transparency it brings.

OpenPOWER systems now bring these advantages to the hardware side in the form of powerful servers. The open source developed OpenPOWER firmware is available for download on GitHub – meaning that the source code can be analyzed and viewed by independent parties.

Highest availability / RAS features

RAS stands for “Reliability, Availability, Serviceability”. As a POWER8-based system, the RP2112 benefits from hardware features, utmost availability and serviceability – including parity and ECC protection. This means the processor’s address and data paths are protected by parity mechanisms or error correcting codes (ECC).

Processor instruction relay allows the system to recover from soft faults within a processor core by repeating the failed operation. Proactive storage scrubbing prevents the propagation of single-bit errors.
