Geo-redundancy and simple, central administration

SvSAN from StorMagic provides storage virtualization and high availability at low cost and with little administration. It uses the hard drives and SSDs of the virtualization hosts to form a highly available virtual SAN. Additional redundant storage arrays are not required. Thanks to software-defined storage, existing installations can be easily expanded with additional capacity during operation. 

Unlike VMware vSAN or other products, SvSAN requires only two physical servers for a high-availability cluster. The investment and operating costs for the hardware are thus reduced by 50 percent. SvSAN works with either VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V, meaning that costs can also be saved when licensing the hypervisor software. When using vSphere, hundreds of branch locations can be centrally managed with just one vCenter Server instance.

Even so-called geo-redundant backups are possible with the StorMagic Virtual Storage Appliance. In this case, the SvSAN configuration is implemented as a stretched cluster with individual nodes located at different sites. This means that the company's data is protected even in the event of fire or flood. Especially for smaller IT environments, an optimized storage solution is often too expensive and far too complex to implement.
