Safety instructions for AMD-SB-7055
On October 23rd, 2025, AMD published the Security Bulletin AMD-SB-7055 [1]. AMD was informed via bug in „Zen 5”-processors, which can cause the RDSEED instruction to output 0 at a non-random rate while falsely signaling success (CF=1). This problem has originally been published via Linux-Kernel mailing list and not via Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure (CVD) process from AMD. AMD has found out that the 16-bit and 32-bit forms of RDSEED are affected on “Zen 5” processors. The 64-bit form of RDSEED is not affected.
Affected systems
AMD EPYC systems:
- systems with "Zen 5" AMD EPYC 9005 Turin processors
AMD Threadripper systems:
- systems with AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 / PRO 9000WX processors
Solution for the problem
Here is a tabular chart of the corresponding CVEs and AGESA / firmware-updates for the correction for the respective EPYC-generation, if available.
