Windows Update KB5062553 causes IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL

After the installation of the latest Windows server 2025 updates, servers with Supermicro H12 motherboards are increasingly experiencing blue screens with the stop code IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. Since neither Supermicro nor Microsoft has yet confirmed this problem or provided a solution, the recommended temporary workaround is to uninstall the update in order to restore system stability.
In this article, it is explained how to remove the update safely.
Problem description
Since the update on July 8th, 2025 (KB5062553)[1], Microsoft is experiencing an increase in blue screens and other errors, such as the taskbar freezing.
Affected components
The problem was imitated at the following components during the test:
- Supermicro H12SSL-NT
- Supermicro H12SSL-CT
- Supermicro H12SSL-i
Problem solution
As there is no official solution from Microsoft or Supermicro, the recommended temporary workaround is to deinstall the KB5062553 update. A guide, how to duly perform this, can be found in the following:
-
First, the Windows update settings must be opened!
-
After this, the update history is opened!
-
The option "deinstall updates" must be chosen!
-
The deinstallation must be confirmed.
-
After this, the system must be restarted to safe the changes!
To avoid having to reinstall the update, it is advisable to disable Windows Automatic Updates. You can find the corresponding instructions how to deactivate automatic updates under Windows server 2025 here: Deactivation of automatic updates under Windows server 2025
