Automatic Windows updates can cause unwanted restarts or failures on servers. In this article, we explain how to deactivate automatic updates under Windows server 2025.

Methods

There are two possibilities for avoiding automatic updates of Windows:

  • deactivate the service
  • settings via group policy

Both methods are explained in the following.

Services

The easiest method is the deactivation via services:

  • The program "services" is opened via Windows search.
