wikiIPMI configuration for Supermicro systems
This article describes tools for the configuration of IPMI modules for Supermicro systems. Alternatively, the ipmitool can also be used if the server is operated on Linux (see also IPMI Configuration under Linux using ipmitool).
IPnMAC
With this tool (on Linux IPMICFG, see below), it is possible to set the IP address and the MAC address locally on the server. It must be taken into consideration that the correct MAC address is already preconfigured.
XGICFG
With the XGICFG tool (for DOS), diverse network parameters can be locally set for the IPMI module on the server. The possible options are listed in the following:
-m Show IP and MAC -m IP Set IP (format :###.###.###.###) -k Show Subnet Mask -k Mask Set Subnet Mask (format :###.###.###.###) -dhcp on Enable the DHCP -dhcp off Disable the DHCP -g Show Gateway IP -g IP Set Gateway IP (format :###.###.###.###)
IPMICFG
IPMICFG allows the local configuration of multiple IPMI settings and is available for the following operating systems:
- Windows (In addition to the command-line program IPMICFG, it also includes the graphical IPMI Configuration Utility)
- Linux
- DOS

IPMI view
Supermicro IPMI View also allows the IPMI configuration of Supermicro systems. For the access via IPMI view, however, a working IP address for IPMI must have been set up beforehand.
psetup
IPMI modules, that are based on the Raritan KIRA chip (such as the IPMI module for X7 motherboards), can also be configured by using psetup: Configuration of Raritan KIRA based Remote Management with psetup.
IPMI configuration via BIOS
For the new Supermicro motherboards (X8/X9/H8 series), the configuration of the IPMI module is possible via mainboard BIOS: Supermicro IPMI Configuration through BIOS or Web Interface
