Nextcloud User Interface (UI) - overview

This article provides an overview about the basic GUI elements of Nextcloud. To do this, click on the first screenshot in the wiki post to see an overview of the individual points.
Application bar

Here (1) you will find all your installed apps in a clear application bar. Some are preinstalled (Nextcloud Files, Nextcloud Photos,...) by default and can be opened with a left click. If you have installed apps via Appcenter, the "+" symbol may appear under which the remaining applications are hidden.
Depending on the opened application, you will find (2) different things here, but you will always receive a menu for the specific application that has been opened. If you are in Nextcloud Files, for example, you will see dots that allow you to display all files or to get an overview of all your shares. However, if you are in the Nextcloud Talk application, you will find a list of all your conversations there.
Application view
Here, (3) you can see opened application of the first step. This is the main area of Nextcloud, where the contents are output.

The folder navigation (4) shows you where you are in the file system. Clicking on the house icon will always take you back to your home directory. If you are in a complex folder structure with various subfolders, you can quickly and easily switch between different directories by clicking on the expanded path.
+-Button
You can create or upload new files/folders with the +-button (5).
Search
You can search for files and folders via magnifying glass icon or also contacts in your Nextcloud environment. The search can only find files based on the name or extension; the contents of the files are not searched (no full-text search)
Notifications

The bell icon (7) hides notifications that are still unread for your user. If you missed a group call in Nextcloud Talk, you would receive a notification here.
Contact search
With the contact symbol in the application bar (right) (8), you can look for users in your Nextcloud instance and either send them an email or start a Nextcloud Talk.
Private settings

With a click on your profile picture (9), you can change private settings of your account and you can also log out there. Furthermore, you will obtain additional information on the following topics:
Information (about):
- clients for desktop, Android and Apple mobile devices
- instructions for the synchronisation of contacts / calendars
- instructions for the access via WebDAV
Help:
- access on the Nextcloud user guide (external)
You can change some private settings and view information in the settings menu, including:

- information: used storage in MB and %
- change password, enabling two-factor authentication, creation of a new app password
