Important information for data loss

Your data is not available anymore? Please note the following information before you continue:

In many cases, responding correctly in an emergency situation enables professional data recovery, as in this case at Attingo.

No access on data carrier or file - power off!

  • Shut down the PC or server immediately. Do not start the device.
  • Unplug the power cord and do not shut down! A controlled shutdown of the system can cause that the data is overwritten and is irretrievably lost.

Do not try to import your backup!

When restoring data to the affected hard drives or SSDs, the original data will be permanently overwritten. We therefore recommend removing all existing data carriers from the RAID array and replacing them with new ones. If it is not possible to restore all of the data, Attingo can still reconstruct the data from the original media.

Rebuild cancelled - RAID offline

Avoid that the damage after the failure of a RAID-array gets bigger:

  • Do not switch any further hard disks or SSDs
  • Reactivate no data carriers, for example with ‚force online‘.
  • Avoid file system verifications (chkdsk or fsck), as this can increase the damage massively.
  • Never delete the RAID-configuration and do not recreate RAID

Hardware errors require cleanroom laboratory

  • Do not connect the affected data carrier to a power source. Each attempt to switch it on will increase the damage and may result in the magnetic layer being worn away.
  • Never open the hard drive or attempt to replace electronic components.

Virtual machine is not available anymore

  • Do not use tools for repairing on the original data base.
  • Delete no virtual drives and/or create new ones.
