When using Supermicro motherboards, it is possible that the PCI Simple Communications Controller can be displayed as an unknown device in the Windows Device Manager. This can even occur after a successful driver installation.

Problem

This behavior was observed with a Supermicro X9DRi-F Motherboard (a board which is build for Intel CPUs with Sandy Bridge microarchitecture).

After all driver installations, two unknown devices in the Device Manager displayed (when you select View -> Show hidden devices):

Solution

To resolve this display problem, install the Intel Management Engine Interface.
