TKperf

TKperf from Thomas-Krenn

The professional tool for hard drive and SSD tests

How fast are the hard drives and SSDs in your system? With our self-developed analysis tool TKperf, you can measure speeds precisely and easily to compare the performance of different hard drives and SSDs with each other. The tool provides detailed reports as well as comprehensive documentation of your test setup.

You can find detailed installation instructions here.

The technology behind TKperf

The SSD tests are based on the Solid State Storage (SSS) Performance Test Specification (PTS) Enterprise v1.0 from the SNIA organization and are prepared using Python. All tests use the Flexible IO Tester (Fio) in the background, therefore a working Fio installation (version 2.0.3 or higher) is required. The configuration of the tests and the subsequent generation of the graphics are also done by a Python script.

Please note: During a test run, all data on the device is lost. The specified device is overwritten several times; for SSDs, a secure erase is also performed. Since the test usually takes a longer period of time, it is recommended to start in a screen session. This way you avoid an accidental abort of the test run.
