We are a leading European manufacturer of customized server and storage systems. Since 2002, Thomas-Krenn has been known for its high-quality, Build-to-Order hardware, fast delivery times and outstanding service quality. Our customers include medium-sized companies, large corporations, small and large system houses, public institutions and data center operators. As a solution provider, we are a strong partner for hardware-related development in the industrial, contract manufacturing, product finishing and logistics sectors. Partnerships with global market leaders such as Intel, Microsoft, VMware, NVIDIA and AMD, as well as our commitment to the open source scene, ensure that our product lines always stay up-to-date and are compatible with all major operating systems and software stacks.

Every Thomas-Krenn system leaves our hands only after passing extensive, standardized tests and our production takes place exclusively at the Freyung site in Germany. At Thomas-Krenn, you can reach one of our trained and certified support staff at any time. In addition, our Austrian employees for knowledge transfer are happy to share their know-how with you in our Thomas-Krenn wiki. Qualified, highly dedicated sales employees together with colleagues from our Tübingen branch ensure that you receive the best possible service. Our story – How it all began

Our company started with an idea: Create a simple, uncomplicated online shop for custom server systems. Such shops were very rare when Max Wittenzellner and Thomas Krenn founded the company in 2002. Customers could individually assemble their desired server from high-quality components and order it with just a few mouse clicks. This eventually developed into our intelligent online configurator. What started as a good idea quickly became more.

Founded as a two-man operation out of a garage, Thomas-Krenn Serverversand GmbH (as the company was previously known) and its staff grew rapidly. Operations initially moved to the Waldkirchen Innovation and Start-up Center, but the company soon needed larger offices and production facilities. Short stops followed in neighboring town of Röhrnbach and a 1,250 square meter site in Freyung’s industrial park. At that time, the company was renamed to Thomas-Krenn.AG.  In 2007, the company found adequate space to accommodate future growth at its current location in Freyung. As early as 2012, the 2,500 square meter building had to be expanded to nearly twice its original size. Even after the two founders left the company in 2014, the success story continued. In 2017, Thomas-Krenn.AG opened a new branch in Tübingen, which actively supports the sales staff. The number of employees at Thomas-Krenn continues to rise steadily and – thanks to clever advance planning – the Freyung location will also offer enough space for expansions in the future.


Close to the customer

At Thomas-Krenn, we put the customer first. Our mission of supplying customers with optimal solutions for their needs – whether in terms of hardware, software or expertise – eventually led to the creation of our in-house Thomas-Krenn wiki in February 2008. Here, our experts, including two Knowledge Transfer employees based in Austria, take on practical questions, provide step-by-step installation instructions or contribute background information on relevant server technologies. Gradually, Thomas-Krenn’s knowledge platform developed into a permanent contact point for IT technicians – with over 500,000 page impressions per month.

Today, we are one of the most successful manufacturers of custom server and storage systems on the market. And despite rapid growth, we have not forgotten our roots: Our headquarters are still located in Freyung, Germany, in the heart of the Bavarian Forest. This success is in large part due to our 130 committed and qualified employees – many of whom have been with the company since its inception. They form the heart of Thomas-Krenn.AG and their ideas help shape the future of the company.

At the head of Thomas-Krenn.AG stand our two Management Board members Christoph Maier and Ralf Hohmann, whose many years of experience and expertise have a decisive influence on the orientation and course of Thomas-Krenn.AG.

Christoph Maier

Christoph Maier has been CEO of Thomas-Krenn.AG since 2018 and was a member of the company’s Management Board from 2005 to 2014. From 2014 to 2018, he headed Max Fuchs AG, a medium-sized retail company. As CEO, Christoph Maier ensures that Thomas-Krenn.AG reacts dynamically and innovatively to opportunities and supports its customers with tailor-made products and services. Born in 1975, the MBA graduate from Colorado State University has regional roots but is strategically and methodologically oriented towards the most successful international companies.

Ralf Hohmann

Ralf Hohmann has been responsible for Finance and Operations on the Management Board of Thomas-Krenn.AG since 2014. With a steady hand and a wealth of experience, he keeps the company on a healthy course by ensuring optimal and smooth operations while keeping a close eye on the bottom line. Ralf Hohmann is an expert in restructuring medium-sized manufacturing companies and has many years of national and international experience in establishing new processes and procedures. Born in 1959, he is married and has two children.
