Intel® Xeon® Scalable CPUs

Intel® is positioning its CPUs and new microarchitecture (formerly codenamed Skylake-SP) for boards with two or more sockets as a new platform in the data center and server segment. The chip manufacturer is launching a range of technologies that deliver greater enterprise performance, improved scalability and utmost reliability. With our Scalable servers, you will benefit from the most advanced CPU technology for enterprise servers currently available.

Apart from the technology, the nomenclature is also changing. Intel® Scalable CPUs come in the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum series. All CPUs fit the same socket, the LGA 3647, which is also used by the current high-end Xeon® Phi CPU.

Xeon® Scalable CPUs come with six to 28 cores and 48 lanes for PCIe 3.0. They have larger L2 caches and a new cache architecture (“non-inclusive L3”) that provides better cache performance. The new memory subsystem with six channels per CPU increases memory performance by up to 60 percent. Optimized turbo-boost profiles enable higher clock frequencies at average core utilization.

AVX-512, Intel's® technology for increasing the floating-point performance – which mainly impacts computer-intensive applications such as machine learning and big data analysis – provides considerably more computing power, in terms of energy consumption and clock speed. Business-critical applications that are essential for utmost availability should particularly benefit from the enhanced RAS features (Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) in the Gold and Platinum segments.
