Die System Management BIOS (SMBIOS) Reference Specification beschreibt wie Mainboard- und Systemhersteller Managementinformationen ihrer Produkte in einem standardisierten Format bereitstellen. Die SMBIOS Spezifikation wurde von der Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) herausgegeben und wird laufend erweitert. Die entsprechend der SMBIOS Spezifikation bereitgestellten Informationen lassen sich unter Linux mit dmidecode auslesen.
