Doch warum ist sie so beliebt? Welche Features bietet Proxmox VE? Und lohnen sich die Vorteile der Open Source Software? In diesem Artikel geben wir Ihnen Antworten auf diese Fragen.<\/strong> <br><em>(Artikel zuletzt aktualisiert am 06.04.2021)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Als Martin und Dietmar Maurer im April 2008 die Open Source Virtualisierungsplattform<strong> Proxmox VE (PVE)<\/strong> ver\u00f6ffentlichten, rechnete wohl kaum jemand mit dem erormen Erfolg. Heute z\u00e4hlt Proxmox zu einer der meistgenutzten Virtualisierungsl\u00f6sungen im Linux-Bereich. Weltweit werden \u00fcber 1.400.000 Server-Hosts von 15.000 zufriedenen Kunden in mehr als 142 L\u00e4ndern (Stand Mai 2020) mit der Debian-basierten Linux-Distribution betrieben. Doch welche Features von Proxmox VE sorgen f\u00fcr die gro\u00dfe Beliebtheit der Open Source Plattform?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Zwei gro\u00dfe Proxmox Features \u2013 darum ist es so beliebt<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ein Umstand der sicherlich zum Erfolg von Proxmox VE beitr\u00e4gt, ist die M\u00f6glichkeit, <strong>zwei verschiedene Virtualisierungsl\u00f6sungen simultan<\/strong> einzusetzen: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>KVM (Kernel-Based Virtual Maschine) <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LXC (LinuX Containers)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. KVM f\u00fcr die Hardware-Virtualisierung<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>KVM ist ein Linux-Kernel-Modul und l\u00e4uft als Hypervisor direkt auf der Hardware \u2013 dient damit also der Hardware-Virtualisierung. Mit KVM k\u00f6nnen zahlreiche virtuelle Maschinen erstellt werden, diverse Betriebssysteme wie Windows, Linux oder verschiedenste BSD-Varianten werden unterst\u00fctzt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Der Linux-Kernel wird bei der Virtualisierung selbst zum Hypervisor, was den Overhead auf ein Minimum reduziert. KVM ist zudem eines der am besten gewarteten Systeme im Linux-Bereich, Fehler werden dank der gro\u00dfen Open Source Community schnell behoben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Die Vorteile von KVM im \u00dcberblick:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Erstellung zahlreicher VMs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unterst\u00fctzung von Windows, Linux oder verschieder BSD-Variatnen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduzierung des Overhead<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schnelle Fehlerbehebung<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gro\u00dfe Open Source Community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. LXC \u2013 die leichtgewichtige Container-Virtualisierung<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>LXC virtualisiert im Gegensatz zu KVM auf Betriebssystem-Ebene und nicht mit virtuellen Maschinen. (Quelle: Proxmox<\/em>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Mehrere voneinander getrennte und abgeschottete Linux-Systeme k\u00f6nnen dadurch auf einem Host-Betriebssystem laufen,&nbsp;wodurch die Hardware wesentlich besser ausgelastet wird. \u00c4hnlich wie Docker ist LXC aber auch ideal f\u00fcr die Virtualisierung einzelner Anwendungen geeignet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bis Version 3.4 unterst\u00fctzte Proxmox OpenVZ als Container-Technologie, erst mit 4.0 kam <strong>LXC<\/strong> zum Einsatz. Gr\u00fcnde daf\u00fcr waren laut Proxmox-Forum unter anderem die <strong>bessere Storage-Unterst\u00fctzung<\/strong> von Linux-Containers. So k\u00f6nnen mit LXC beispielsweise ZFS Sub-Volumes genutzt werden, was mit OpenVZ nicht m\u00f6glich ist. Die <strong>Netzwerk-Konfiguration<\/strong> ist bei Linux-Containers ebenfalls <strong>flexibler.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Vorteile von LXC bei Proxmox VE:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Virtualisierung mit LXC auf Betriebssystem-Ebene<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mehrere Linux-Systeme parallel auf einem Host lauff\u00e4hig<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ideal f\u00fcr Virtualisierung einzelner Anwendungen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gute Storage-Unterst\u00fctzung durch LinuX-Container<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flexible Netzwerk-Konfiguration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Was bietet Proxmox VE sonst noch so?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Einfache Verwaltung mit \u00fcbersichtlichem Web-Interface<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ein eigener Management-Server f\u00fcr die Verwaltung der Cluster, VMs, Container usw. ist \u00fcbrigens nicht n\u00f6tig. <strong>Jeder Proxmox-Host verf\u00fcgt<\/strong> \u00fcber ein <strong>eigenes Web-Interface.<\/strong> Dank diesem Rich-Web-App Management-Tool kann man den<strong> gesamten Cluster <\/strong>von jedem Knoten aus <strong>komfortabel verwalten<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ein eigenes verteiltes Dateisystem, das Proxmox Cluster File System, verteilt die Konfigurationsdaten auf alle Hosts im Cluster und sorgt f\u00fcr konsistente Verwaltungsinformationen. Damit ist es ohne gro\u00dfen Aufwand m\u00f6glich, <strong>wiederkehrende Aufgaben per Skript zu automatisieren.<\/strong> F\u00fcr Perl, Python, Java, PHP und&nbsp;Javascript\/NodeJS stehen Clients zur Verf\u00fcgung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Da sich die Open Source Software&nbsp;Proxmox mit entsprechenden Programmier-Kenntnissen auch individuell an die Anspr\u00fcche der Nutzer angepassen l\u00e4sst, kann man so sehr <strong>flexibel agieren<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Auf Debian GNU\/Linux basierend<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Proxmox VE basiert auf dem Betriebssystem Debian<\/strong>, wodurch Nutzer auf<strong> alle Funktionen der beliebten Linux-Distribution<\/strong> zugreifen k\u00f6nnen. Im Grunde k\u00f6nnen au\u00dferdem alle Pakete, die f\u00fcr Debian entwickelt wurden, auch unter Proxmox nachinstalliert werden. Die Virtualisierungssoftware ist damit vor allem f\u00fcr Administratoren geeignet, die bereits \u00fcber Erfahrung mit Linux verf\u00fcgen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mit Proxmox VE k\u00f6nnen Sie ebenso interaktiv wie mit Debian arbeiten. Dank der <strong>gro\u00dfen Community<\/strong> ist au\u00dferdem <strong>extrem viel Know-how<\/strong> zu diesem Betriebssystem online verf\u00fcgbar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>HA Manager f\u00fcr hohe Verf\u00fcgbarkeit ist vorinstalliert<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Debian tr\u00e4gt in erheblichem Ma\u00dfe zur Zuverl\u00e4ssigkeit der Virtualisierungsplattform bei, da das Betriebssystem als extrem sicher und stabil gilt. Als Verwalter des Projekts aktualisiert die <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proxmox.com\/de\/ueber-uns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH<\/a> die Open Source Software regelm\u00e4\u00dfig und passt sie dabei auch an neue Debian-Versionen an.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wenn Hochverf\u00fcgbarkeit erforderlich ist, punktet die Software ebenfalls. Der Proxmox VE <strong>HA Manager \u00fcberwacht alle Knoten im Cluster<\/strong> und wird sofort aktiv, sobald einer dieser Knoten ausf\u00e4llt. Die Funktion ist bei Proxmox VE schon <strong>vorinstalliert<\/strong>, was einem selbst die Konfiguration erspart.  Den HA Manager kann man ebenfalls <strong>\u00fcber das integrierte Web-Interface<\/strong> <strong>verwalten<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Live-Migration \u00fcber Shared Storage<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Proxmox VE&nbsp;ist zudem sehr flexibel, was den Speicher angeht. In die Plattform sind verschiedene Netzwerk- und lokale Speichertypen integriert, was ebenfalls auf Debian zur\u00fcck geht. <strong>Alle Speichertechnologien<\/strong>, die <strong>der Linux-Kernel bzw. die Distribution<\/strong> unterst\u00fctzt, <strong>lassen sich auch unter Proxmox nutzen<\/strong>. Dazu z\u00e4hlen <strong>iSCSI, FibreChannnel, ZFS, NFS oder Ceph.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00dcber<strong> lokale Speicher <\/strong>oder <strong>Shared Storage<\/strong> lasssen sich Abbilder der virtuellen Maschinen abgelegen. Proxmox VE verf\u00fcgt au\u00dferdem \u00fcber eine <strong>Funktion zur Live-Migration<\/strong>.
