Backplanes
Th advantage of a Backplane: Quick exchange of hard disks
When using a Backplane, the hard disks are not connected to the system by cables as customary,
but are connected via plug connections. Due to this reason, hard disks can be exchanged without the need of opening the server chassis. This is particularly suitable for systems where hard disks have to be exchanged in short intervals, e.g. for backups.
Hints for the assembly of Backplanes
At all Thomas-Krenn Server, belatedly needed hard disks can be easily and quickly retrofitted.
At servers where the backplane connectors are difficult to access, all cables (connection between Backplane and controller) will be mounted by us. At servers where the Backplane connectors are easily to access, the Backplane cables are attached to the consignment.
Please make use of the "remarks"-field during the orderin process to let us know how many hard disks shall be connected to an available Onboard controller.
Hot-Swap operation (requires additionally a RAID controller)
With Hot-Swap hard disks can be exchanged while the server is operating. So the Downtime of your server minimises considerably .

* With a SATA RAID controller (e.g. from 3Ware), and the corresponding management software, the SATA hard disks can be managed.
