Shared Storage Server
In addition to the products "shared Firewall" and "shared Loadbalancer", Thomas Krenn customers now are also able to make use of the "shared Storage-Server"!
With this alternative to a dedicated server, you obtain a storage area with high performance and reliability at a comparatively advantageous price. Thereby this storage area is realized over an iSCSI-target. That means that the customers are able to access to it with an iSCSI initiator. Also a competing access of several servers at the same time is possible, e.g. by a formatting the iSCSI-target with the OCFS2 file system. So the „Shared Storage“ also extends itself for typical web applications where e.g. several web-servers access on one and the same web content.
On the clustered storage- server, the hard disk storage unit is realized as RAID10. This warranties an excellent performance and high reliability. Owing to DRBD, the same data is available on both knots of the active- active-Cluster. So also in case of a total loss of one knot, no data can get lost and the continuing operation is secured. Consequently also the storage is no SPOF (Single Point Of Failure) any more. In case of a failure of a know, its services will be started on the second knot additionally. This will have no or hardly any impact for Thomas Krenn customers because the iSCSI initiators will - after an interruption - automatically restore the iSCSI connection to the target by means of automatic reconnect.
Also the extensibility of the leased storage-area is given. The only condition is that the operating system supports this and that the iSCSITarget was formatted with a file system which also supports an extension.
