Using Western Digital Green Power HDDs with an Areca 1680IX RAID Controller

Problem with Areca 1680IX and WD Green Power HDDs

There are problems with the current firmware 1.45-80314 when using WD GreenPower drives. The HDDs are not correctly recognized by the controller and therefore can not form a raid. The error message "time out error" is displayed.

You can fix it by either disabling the Areca controller NCQ function, or importing the beta firmware version 1.45-80915.
