Remedying network problem in openSUSE 12.3

After installing openSUSE 12.3, it may occur that an IP address is not automatically obtained. The problem does not occur on every computer. When this occurs, it helps to make explicit reference to the DHCP on the network setting in the configuration tool Yast2.

Info on how to do so from heise.de:

  • We experienced real problems throughout the network during the test. Two PCs, both connected to a LAN with a DHCP server, had no network connection on the first start after the installation. It helped the computer to reboot. On the second try we had to make explicit reference to the DHCP network card in the configuration tool Yast2.
