Haswell is the name the microarchitecture which was presented by Intel in 2012. This article will provide an overview of the Single-CPU models of the Haswell generation. For information on other processor generations see the Intel Microarchitecture Overview.

Characteristics

Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3 CPU

The Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3 processors have the following characteristics:

  • Haswell Architecture
  • 22 nm Production Process
  • E3 are Single Socket Models
  • Socket 1150
  • Compatible with the Supermicro X10SLH-F Motherboard
  • Incompatible with Sandy and Ivy Bridge
  • Models with and without an integrated GPU unit:
    • CPUs with a 5 at the end of the four-digit code contain an Intel HD P4600 or P4700 GPU.
    • Models with a 0 at the end contain no GPU.
  • CPU designations with L in the name refer to clock reduced power saving models with lower TDP.
  • An 18 percent increase in energy efficiency and a 38 percent higher graphics performance, hardware-accelerated video encoding and decoding[1]
  • Improved Security Features
  • Xeon Model with 13 W TDP (lowest power consumption ever)
  • 25 W Xeon delivers 52% higher performance per watt as compared to the previous model with 45 W
  • Double the graphic performance vs. Ivy Bridge

Haswell Xeon E3 Refresh CPUs

The Xeon E3 Refresh Processors, which appeared in Q2/2014, have the following new features:

  • Compared with the Haswell generation of 2013 slightly higher clock speeds.[2]
  • The four-digit number was increased by 1 (i.e. Xeon E3-1231 v3 instead of Xeon E3-1230 v3) on all models (with two exceptions).
  • Models with and without an integrated GPU unit:
    • CPUs with a 5 or 6 at the end of the four-digit code contain an Intel HD P4600 or P4700 GPU.
    • Models with a 0 at the end contain no GPU.
