Installing TKmon on Ubuntu 12.04

This article shows you how to install TKmon on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Installation Ubuntu 12.04

In the following example we will be using Ubuntu 12.04.1 installation media. This will ensure that the core version 3.2 is used (instead of newer core versions by the Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Enablement Stack):

  1. Ubuntu 12.04.1 installation (incl. OpenSSH-Server)
  2. After the installation, and depending on which kind of installation configure Locales in Ubuntu:
    sudo locale-gen de_DE.UTF-8
  3. Loading System Updates:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
    sudo apt-get clean
    sudo reboot

Installation TKmon

  1. Embed the Thomas Krenn Apt-Key:
    sudo ls (to enter the password for sudo)
    wget -O - | sudo apt-key add -
  2. Embed Thomas Krenn Repositories:
    cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d
    sudo wget
    sudo wget
    sudo apt-get update
  3. Execution of apt-get install tkmon to install TKmon

Installing TKmon

Run the following command:

sudo apt-get install tkmon
(As an alternative, during the installation of sudo apt-get install tkmon-appliance in addition to tkmon, the tkmon-issue package is also installed, in doing so the computer's IP Address appears on the Text-Login Screen)


  • URL: https://[IP]/tkmon (statt [IP] enter the IP address of the computer)
  • User: tkmon
  • Password: (previously entered or configured password)
