Installing TKmon 2.0 on Ubuntu 14.04

This article shows you how to install the monitoring software TKmon 2.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. For productive operations we recommend you to run TKmon on a dedicated server. You can either buy a Product not available anymore or install TKmon on an Ubuntu server manually with the description in this article.
Important hint
The monitoring software TKmon is no longer being developed further and the Thomas-Krenn call-home service has also now been switched off.
Installation Ubuntu 14.04
In the following example we will be using Ubuntu 14.04.1 installation media. This will ensure that the Linux Kernel version 3.13 is used (instead of newer versions by the Ubuntu LTS Hardware Enablement Stack):
- Ubuntu 14.04.1 installation (incl. OpenSSH-Server)
- Language (F2): English, Keymap (F3): German
- Username: tkmon
- After the installation, and depending on which kind of installation configure Locales in Ubuntu:
sudo locale-gen de_DE.UTF-8
- Loading System Updates:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean
sudo reboot
Installation TKmon
Install TKmon using the Thomas-Krenn Ubuntu repository:
- Embed the Thomas-Krenn Apt-Key:
sudo ls
(to enter the password for sudo)wget -O - https://archive.thomas-krenn.com/tk-archive.gpg.pub | sudo apt-key add -
- Embed Thomas-Krenn Repositories:
cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d
sudo wget https://archive.thomas-krenn.com/tk-main-trusty.list
sudo wget https://archive.thomas-krenn.com/tk-optional-trusty.list
cd
sudo apt-get update
- Install TKmon
sudo apt-get install tkmon
- (As an alternative, during the installation of
sudo apt-get install tkmon-appliance
in addition to tkmon, the tkmon-issue package is also installed, in doing so the computer's IP Address appears on the Text-Login Screen)
- (As an alternative, during the installation of
Login
Use the following login data to log into TKmon using a web browser:
- URL: https://[IP]/tkmon (statt [IP] enter the IP address of the computer)
- User: tkmon
- Password: (previously entered or configured password)
