The Thomas-Krenn low-energy server LES v3 has an onboard SIM card slot. It is located below the RAM latch and is used if an LTE modem is installed in the MiniPCIe slot of the system. In this article we describe step by step the installation of a SIM card in a Thomas-Krenn LES v3.

Necessary Tools

The housing of the LES v3 must be opened and dismantled in parts. Use a large and small screwdriver to loosen the screws of the housing.

Open the Chassis

To open the housing, proceed as follows:

  1. Start with the metal cover on the bottom of the LES v3, loosen the four screws with the smaller screwdriver and remove the cover.
  2. Now loosen the screws with the smaller screwdriver on the two side covers with the recesses for the connections. Remove the two covers as well.
  3. Now you can use the larger screwdriver to loosen the four silver screws to remove the drive bay. Please make sure that the cables of the installed hard disk or SSD are then disconnected from the mainboard.

Install SIM card

Now that the housing has been opened, you can use the pictures to install the SIM card:

Mounting the housing parts

After installing the SIM card, you can now reattach the dismantled housing parts. To do this, proceed in reverse order as described in the section Opening the housing.
