BIOS POST Code A9 Solution

If the BIOS POST code A9 appears when trying enter a server's BIOS at boot time, and the server is stuck, the BIOS must be reset.

Problem POST Code A9

When trying to change to the BIOS during the boot process, the message Entering Setup... still appears, but a change to the BIOS no longer happens. The POST code A9 can be seen in the lower right corner:

Solution

To solve the problem, perform the following steps:

  1. Disconnect all power cables so that no power supply is connected to power..
  2. Remove the BIOS battery from the motherboard.
  3. Carry out a reset by short-circuiting the two metal connections on the battery socket with a metal tool for ~5 seconds.
  4. Replace the BIOS battery and restore power to the system.
