Für das Backup von virtuellen Maschinen bietet VMware die vStorage APIs for Data Protection. vStorage APIs for Data Protection (für vSphere 4) sind die nächste Generation von VMware Consolidated Backup (für VI 3). Die APIs sind in allen Editionen von VMware vSphere enthalten (bis auf die kostenlose ESXi Single Server Variante).
