Hyper-V Server SP1 für Windows Server 2008 R2
Mit dem Service Pack 1 für Windows Server 2008 R2 gibt es neue Funktionen für Hyper-V.[1] Im Oktober 2010 veröffentlichte Microsoft den Release Candidate für das SP1.[2] Im Februar 2011 wurde das SP1 freigegeben.[3] Im April 2011 folgte das Release des eigenständigen Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 SP1.[4]
Neue geplante Funktionen:
- Dynamic Memory for Hyper-V[5]
- bisher mit Hyper-V (V1 & V2) nur statische RAM-Zuweisung
- künftig mit Startup RAM und Maximum RAM
- RemoteFX for Remote Desktop Services (RDS)[6][7]
- erfordert GPU im Server, diese wird virtualisiert
Hyper-V Server v2
Funktionsumfang (bezieht sich auf die kostenlose Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 Version):[8]
- CPU Support: bis zu 8 CPUs
- Memory Support: bis zu 1 TB
- Virtual Machine Memory Support: bis zu 32 GB in Summe
- Live Migration (neu)
- High Availability (neu)
Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 wurde im September 2009 freigegeben.[9]
Hyper-V Server v1
Funktionsumfang (bezieht sich auf die kostenlose Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 Version):[8]
- CPU Support: bis zu 4 CPUs
- Memory Support: bis zu 32 GB
- Virtual Machine Memory Support: bis zu 32 GB in Summe

Die nachfolgenden Windows Server 2008 R2 Editionen

beinhalten alle Hyper-V. Auch die Hyper-V Installation ist bei allen Windows Server 2008 Edition gleich.
Allerdings gibt es Unterschiede im Funktionsumfang.
